|You Don’t See Me|

I see you, but you don’t see me, not the real me.
You see the me that I allow you to see…
The me with the fake smiles and the sarcasm
that helps me guard my fragile heart.

I see you, but you don’t see me, not the real me.
You see the me that has “my life together”
all my t’s crossed and I’s dotted
the me that inspires and encourages other.

I see you, but you don’t see me, not the real me.
You don’t see the me that is broken down,
or the me that struggles with her feelings,
self-doubt, and failures in this life.

I see you, but you don’t see me, not the real me.
You don’t see the me with loneliness in my eyes,
the deafening silence that consumes my mind
or the numbness that takes over my life.

If I reach out will you take the time to see me,
and to bring life back in these lungs once more?
